Moscow-Sana

Today, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov denounced once again the United States and a number of European countries imposed unilateral coercive measures on Syria, including the so-called “Caesar Act” in light of the emerging Corona virus pandemic.

Lavrov said in his speech to the international conference “The White Sea .. Rome Dialogue” via video that “the West pursues double standards by refraining from helping Syria in humanitarian issues and by continuing to stifle it economically in circumstances of the outbreak of the Corona pandemic,” noting that “Americans and Europeans are invoking naked accusations. Health and has no basis to justify the imposition of coercive measures and the Caesar Act against Syria.

Lavrov reiterated the illegality of the presence of the American occupation forces in the Syrian territories, expressing regret that "Syria is taking positive steps within the framework of a political solution to the crisis in it, but it is getting an illegal American armed presence in its territory that works to impede the restoration of the country's unity."

Lavrov pointed out that “Syria has managed to break the back of terrorism in most of its lands,” stressing that efforts to rebuild the country and return the displaced Syrians to their areas that have been targeted by terrorism require the participation of the entire international community.

The Russian Foreign Minister said, “What is regrettable is that many countries, including members of the European Union as well as regional countries, refused, under severe pressure from the United States, to participate in the International Conference of Syrian Refugees that was held in Damascus last month. Washington also forced the United Nations Organization, which is a public organization. To reduce its participation in the conference and limit it to the status of observer only.

On the other hand, the Russian Foreign Minister criticized the US obstruction of resolving the issue of appointing a special envoy of the United Nations to Libya.

Lavrov said, "We are concerned that the issue of appointing a special envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations to Libya has not been resolved .. The Americans have been blocking this decision for many months, ignoring the position of the African Union, trying to dictate their conditions and refusing to search for a compromise solution that suits all."

Since the NATO aggression against it in 2011, Libya has been witnessing a state of chaos and insecurity in light of the proliferation of weapons and terrorist organizations, while two main parties are currently fighting over the authorities: the Government of National Accord and the parallel government operating in eastern Libya supported by the House of Representatives and the Libyan army led by Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
