The Navy's first assault ship, the Magen Brigade, was received this week at a ceremony in the port of Haifa in the presence of President Reuven Rivlin and Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi after a 4,000-mile voyage from the shipyards in Germany.

This is a multi-purpose ship whose main purpose is to protect the rigs.

However, next week will begin the second stage of the process only after it is declared protects INS-promotion: Install all weapon systems and technology made in blue and white on the ship.

Among other things, it will be installed in future long-range interceptor type Barak 8 is supposed to deal with H"iahont " One of the most advanced cruise missiles in the world, currently in the hands of the Syrian army and the defense establishment, fears that it will seep into the hands of Hezbollah. According to Israeli intelligence, the Shiite organization's world-wide efforts to lay hands on precision missiles, and Hamas has plans to fire gas rigs In Operation Eitan, Hamas tried to launch rockets at a rig in front of Ashkelon - AB).

The absorption of the four defensive ships will express a significant strengthening of the navy: not only with the addition of the most advanced vessels in the arena, which will help give the IDF superiority in space - but also in manpower, since each such ship can serve about 100 soldiers, most of them in compulsory service. Experts in the defense system, the navy designed the shield ship so that it can respond to more complex threats, including faster missiles that have not yet reached the arena. A sea-missile system, a "mighty" radar, an iron dome array, a 76-meter cannon "M, command and control systems, electronic warfare systems and more. Since all these systems are supposed to be uniquely integrated on the same vessel, this phase becomes a very big technological challenge for the security system.

Defense experts stressed that the main challenge will be to integrate the radars and missile systems, even before the connectivity between the navy and the air force systems and the division of responsibilities between the troops in routine and emergency. These issues have not yet been resolved, and should be examined by Air Defense Commander Brigadier General Ran A star, before being presented to the commander of the Air Force, Major General Amikam Nurkin.

Air Force officials stressed: "Our corps systems have a very high standard, in many ways, and in order to protect them and maintain air superiority in the Middle East, the Navy must meet the standard in order to integrate."

The Navy is optimistic that if the malfunctions do not occur, the system installation process should be completed in about a year and a half.

The corps even set up a special facility for this purpose, called a "lagoon," which is supposed to help shorten schedules.

However, defense experts believe that this phase will take more than two years.

The same experts have already pointed out a malfunction in the steering system of an unmanaged ship, with which the ship left the shipyard in Germany.

The Navy described it as "part of the evolutionary process of ship production," but Defense Department officials argued that this malfunction should not have happened in the face of the defense system's strict engineering oversight.

It should be noted that the fault - first published in Walla!

NEWS - will be repaired in Israel by the manufacturing company in the coming months.

Any delay becomes critical

The pressure on schedules raises a burning issue in the defense establishment.

Currently, most of the protection of Israel's "economic water" space, including the rigs, rests on the AHB Lahav missile ship, which has been upgraded with an Iron Dome system, advanced radar and other areas.

This situation stems from a decision made by the Navy over the past decade not to upgrade more than one missile ship in advanced systems for various reasons, some budgetary and others pertaining to the length of the process.

The defense establishment criticized the corps' decision, arguing that it was appropriate to take advantage of a rare window of opportunity in which the countries in the area facing threats in the naval arena were all immersed in tensions around the Arab Spring and complex internal problems.

Now, the situation makes the corps' activities in this field less flexible than it should have been in the reality created in the Mediterranean.

Therefore, with the imminent joining of the "Shark" rig to the range of existing rigs ("Shark" was said to arrive from Singapore in April this year, but the date was postponed to October and recently another postponement - AB) was reported, along with other activities off the coast of Israel. The Navy, and especially the Lahav Brigades, will grow, with the Navy disarming two old missile ships, as part of the Gideon multi-year program. As

a result, defense experts stressed that any delay in the process of integrating systems on shield ships becomes critical Since the end of the process, they will be required to protect more sensitive sites at sea. It should be noted that the need for multi-purpose ships arose in the defense establishment about 15 years ago, regardless of the gas rigs, even when Yedidya Yaari served as naval commander.
