The President of El Salvador, Nayib Bukele, applauded the judicial decision that ordered the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to extend the Temporary Protected Status Program (TPS) for nine months. ) for several countries, including El Salvador.
The president stated that the current permit expired on January 4 for some 200,000 Salvadorans.
Now the new deadline will expire on October 4, 2021, according to a statement from DHS.

Bukele hopes to reach an agreement with the Biden administration to find a definitive solution for TPS beneficiaries, who are allowed to live and work in the United States without risk of being deported.

Bukele acknowledged that a definitive solution is not easy and said that he does not rule out the option of seeking a new extension of the TPS.
