"Police violence": the right castigates the "message of defiance" of Emmanuel Macron

2020-12-08T13:13:57.912Z

The ambiguity of the head of state during his interview on Brut, last Friday, sparked much criticism from politicians.

The use of the terms "

police violence

" by Emmanuel Macron not only ulcerated the police unions.

The remarks made on Friday by the Head of State, during an interview with the online media Brut, sparked a wave of indignation on the right and the National Rally (RN).

This intervention was seen by Marine Le Pen as a

"catastrophic questioning"

of the police.

The president of the RN also castigated Sunday, on LCI,

"unfounded accusations"

of the president, who admitted the existence of facial checks.

The president (ex-Republicans, LR) Xavier Bertrand for his part denounced on France 3 a

"not forgivable fault"

of the Head of State, who has, according to him,

"released the police"

by accepting to speak of

"police violence".

An "

ambiguity more than guilty",

according to number two of LR, Guillaume Peltier

.

“The head of state did not defend the police institution.

Daring to institutionalize the idea that the police can be violent and racist is false, it is serious and Xavier Bertrand is right to consider it unforgivable.

In reality, Emmanuel Macron creates the conditions for the violence he claims to denounce, ”

according to him.

When you absolutely seek to seduce, to give your audience the words they expect, you cannot get out of your ambiguity unscathed.

Bruno Retailleau, president of the LR group in the senate

The deputy noted that the guest of Brut had applied himself to hold a position of central observer, between the "

discrimination

", the "

racist attitudes

" of certain "

members

" of the police, the violence "

antiflics

”, the need to better protect the police and a“

society

”that has become more violent.

But for Guillaume Peltier, this rhetoric of nuance is a danger in these times of social fractures.

"

These words are an accelerator and an aggravator of the security crisis we are going through,

" he said.

On the right, some elected officials, like Eric Ciotti, ask Emmanuel Macron to reconsider his remarks.

With this interview, very serious and shocking, we are at the heart of the devastation of 'at the same time'.

It is a message of mistrust aimed at an institution, "

said the member from Nice, pointing to an

" ambivalent and ambiguous argument "

, which

" amounts to saying that there are two camps while in the Republic, there are simply those who are responsible for enforcing the law and those who transgress it

”.

When Macron speaks of "

police violence

" or "

racism

" in the police,

"fl

has

the instincts head

" and "

legitimate

" another violence, that of those who show Judge Eric Ciotti, while "

nearly 200 police were injured in two Saturdays

”.

In light of the latest violent protests, Eric Ciotti considers

the project for an internet platform dedicated to discrimination to be

totally ridiculous

”.

For him, Macron's focus is to address the "

categories

" and "c

ommunities

" but in the end everyone is "

abused

" by the lack of clarity of public speaking "

loss of credibility

".

In the Senate, convinced of an expectation of firmness in French society, Bruno Retailleau also sees the presidential strategy in a political impasse.

When you absolutely seek to seduce, to give your audience the words they expect, you cannot get out of your ambiguity unscathed.

The paradox is that our country has never known so many fractures.

This “at the same time” is therefore at the origin of the disorder, democratic mistrust and anger,

”overwhelms the senator.
