- The foehn wind has raged again in the Isar valley.

On Friday, the storm called the fire brigade and police, toppled large trees and even started fires.

But first the good news: Nobody was injured.

“It's annoying,” says Fred, who runs the Kärntner Alm in Mittenwald as the owner with Carolin Alexander.

Right next to their restaurant, the foehn wind knocked down two large fir trees and buried three of their and their employees' cars.

“We're just glad that nothing else happened.” The parked vehicles were empty and no one was injured.

However, the amount of damage is several thousand euros.

"But it could have been worse." The inn owner is surprised that the trees fell over now, of all times.

“We already had much stronger foehn storms this year than on Friday.

At that time the firs held up. "

Due to the wind, a small chimney fire on Wallgau's Walchenseestrasse developed into a full-blown fire within minutes at around 6 p.m. on Friday evening.

The foehn storm fueled the flying sparks.

“The canopy and the roof truss then caught fire,” says Police Superintendent Peter Hartmann from the Mittenwald Inspection.

With quick action, the fire brigade comrades from Wallgau (45 men) and Mittenwald (24 men) were able to prevent worse.

"We had the fire under control within three quarters of an hour," says Johannes Berwein, deputy commander of the Wallgauer Wehr.

The property damage could not yet be quantified.

A chimney sweeper then checked the entire house.

There was no damage in the building.

The residents were allowed to return to their homes after the mission.

Another - luckily mild - chimney fire started in a house on Mittenwald's Riedkopfstrasse.

Shortly before noon, the Mittenwald volunteer fire brigade arrived with 30 emergency services.

A passer-by had previously observed that the fireplace there was on fire.

When the volunteers arrived, deletion was no longer necessary.

The fire has already gone out on its own.

Here too a chimney sweeper came to inspect the smoke exhaust and the heating system.

Nobody was injured in either of the fires.

The storm also caused chaos in local public transport.

Because of fallen trees between Seefeld in Tirol and Reith, the railway line between Mittenwald and Innsbruck had to be closed.

The ÖBB then introduced a rail replacement service.

From today the train should run again.
