On paper, the migrant crisis seems like a problem that Gran Canaria hoteliers may face.
And sometimes even a partial solution to the collapse in bookings.
"Of the 145,000 tourist places available on the island, only 7.5% are occupied by tourists
," confirms Tom Smulders, vice-president of the Federation of Hotels and Tourism Companies of Las Palmas, (FEHT).
Add to that 25% unemployment and 14% partial unemployment, and you get an idea of the gravity of the situation. "

In this context, the hoteliers suggest that the Spanish government at the beginning of September take care of the migrants that the latter wants to keep on the archipelago but does not know where to stay.
"We offered humanitarian aid, urgent and temporary,"
said the spokesperson for hoteliers on the island.
