"The infections are too numerous to consider easing now," said Health Minister Paulette Lenert after a government meeting on the epidemiological situation.
Consequence: restaurants, bars, sports halls, cinemas, and theaters remain closed until January 15.
In addition, the number of visitors authorized to the house remains limited to two, despite the end of the year holidays, and the curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. is maintained.
These decisions were announced at the end of November, when the government of the Grand Duchy became aware of the extent of the second wave of the pandemic.
According to data from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, Luxembourg on Wednesday had an incidence rate approaching 1,200 infections per 100,000 inhabitants over the last fourteen days, the highest figure in Europe just ahead of Croatia (1,149 ) and Lithuania (1115).
In this country of some 600.00 inhabitants, 38,864 cases of coronavirus and 369 deaths have been recorded, according to the latest official figures available.
