While the Staatliche Gymnasium Holzkirchen is getting an extension, the FOS next door is on dry land.

She struggles with similar space problems.

Holzkirchen

- Michael Hüttl remains objective.

Nevertheless, he breaks the silence: “I'm not angry,” emphasizes the director of the Fachoberschule (FOS) Holzkirchen.

"But I was a bit surprised that we weren't included in the discussion." known to his school: "The district administrator knows that we are also full and have no more space."

As reported, the state high school in Holzkirchen is to get an extension due to the increased number of students.

The district committee recently approved these plans.

According to this, a building with four classrooms is to be built between the gym and Erich-Kästner-Straße for around 2.3 million euros by 2023.

There is the option of adding a floor to the new building later.

But for now only the worst fire is put out.

Because the district hopes that the flow of students to Holzkirchen will decrease when a new grammar school is built in Sauerlach and an additional FOS and secondary school in Oberhaching.

While there will soon be a remedy for the overcrowded grammar school, the neighboring FOS is left empty-handed.

She is struggling with similar problems, reports Hüttl.

“We have no more alternatives.” Shortly after moving into the new building in 2014, his predecessor Josef Schlemmer complained that the building was too small.

According to Hüttl, 679 students are currently attending the FOS, spread over 27 classes.

This means that around 30 more students started in 2019, which corresponds to one class.

For these, the multi-purpose room serves as a classroom.

The auditorium is currently used as a multi-purpose room.

The corona pandemic has exacerbated the situation: Since some companies are currently not accepting trainees, many young people would go to the FOS, said Hüttl.

Stays abroad - which are otherwise popular between secondary school and FOS - fell flat due to the corona.

Hüttl believes that the number of students will continue to rise.

In view of the lack of space, he had talks with the district administrator, reports Hüttl.

“They keep an eye on that.” There are initial ideas.

For example, that the central aisle between the FOS and high school is increased.

“But there is nothing ready to be said.” The planned extension is good for the entire campus, says Hüttl.

However, he fears that the situation in the shared triple gym will worsen.

There is also a tweak here.

"We are already running a minimal program."

According to Sophie-Marie Stadler, spokeswoman for the district office, the district has “the greatest understanding of the lack of space at the FOS”.

Since the district is highly indebted, expenditures must be "strictly prioritized".

And there is a major difference to the grammar school.

“The FOS currently has a guest school quota of 60 percent,” she explains.

This means that six out of ten students do not come from the Miesbach district, but mainly from the Munich district and occasionally from Tölz and Rosenheim.

At the grammar school, on the other hand, the guest school quota is only around ten percent.

The realization of the FOS in Oberhaching has been decided.

In this respect, the room situation in Holzkirchen will relax.

The situation with the planned high school in Sauerlach is not comparable: "Even with ten percent fewer students, spatial remedial action should have been created."

Hüttl says about the guest student quota: "We have a free choice of schools at FOS." The students decide where they go.

Admittedly, young people from the Miesbach district are primarily taken into account.

But the pressure from neighboring schools in the Munich area is high.

"We have a lot of inquiries here."

Nevertheless, the district is sticking to its line: The FOS must bridge the time until the new building in Deisenhofen, as the high school has done so far, emphasizes Stadler.

No new guest students would be accepted there, unless they were siblings.
