Advent hiking in Rottach-Egern: "Consciously do not give full throttle"

Despite stricter corona measures, the Advent hiking in Rottach-Egern should take place again on Saturday (December 12th).

Co-initiator Josef Bogner is hoping for a "rather calm" process this time too.

- The tightened corona measures that came into force this week have also put an end to the last mulled wine stand at Tegernsee.

With a heavy heart, for example, the operators of the two gastro huts on the Wiesseer lake promenade had to clear the field again after just one week.

The number of infections simply does not allow serving alcohol and socializing.

The Advent hiking in Rottach-Egern, on the other hand, should go into the second round this Saturday (December 12th) as planned.

Initiators do not want to attract visitors "from all over Munich and the district"

It's a tightrope walk.

Josef Bogner from the Rottach-Egern tourist office is well aware of this.

"It should only be a substitute offer, we don't want to attract masses from the district and all of Munich", says the chairman of the Advent Hiking, during which mostly the local artisans present themselves in their shops and workshops.

There are also "to-go offers" from the local restaurants.

According to Bogner, the past weekend has shown that wandering from shop to shop is "rather calm" and contemplative, the offers are spread across the entire town, thus equalizing the flow of visitors.

In fact, at the premiere last Saturday, only a few visitors or even a small group could be observed in Rottach-Egern.

A reluctance that Bogner accommodates in these special times.

“We deliberately don't want to go full throttle,” emphasizes the innkeeper.

That is why the map specially designed for Advent hiking was circulated with all participants two days in advance.

"We don't want to force advertising - it's a shame."

The community did not provide their Christmas huts

Because Bogner and the tourist office want to offer the artisans a platform just before Christmas.

An idea that Mayor Christian Köck (CSU) also welcomes in principle.

This year, however, the town hall did not make the community Christmas booths available for these and other Advent initiatives.

"That would be counterproductive at the moment," says the mayor.

After all, in times of high infection rates, it is important to avoid crowds - where possible.

"And as a community we have a role model function," says Köck, who himself was already sick with Covid-19.

In its current form, advent hiking is also unproblematic in the eyes of the mayor.

"It is good that our artisans are not completely forgotten this way."
