Fang Bao is the first choice for many people's breakfast. However, don't think that Fang Bao tastes very healthy. In fact, there may be a high sodium crisis.

We randomly selected 25 bagged square bags of 7 brands in the market, and checked whether the sodium exceeded the standard?

Over 40% of adults in Hong Kong consume sodium through food, mainly from condiments and sauces; bread ranks fourth, accounting for about 6%.

What is the sodium content of the square packet?

Although the square bun is tasteless, salt helps the bread to ferment and extend the shelf life, so a lot of salt is added when making it.

In order to reduce the sodium intake of Hong Kong people in daily life, the Center for Food Safety implemented the "Voluntary Sodium Reduction Target" in September last year. A total of 7 bread manufacturers (including King Bread, Egg Tart King, Chaoqun, Baijia Supermarket, San Francisco) Anna, Taipan, Garden) participated.

A total of more than 50 pre-packaged white and wheat packets have an average decrease in sodium content of 3% in one year, from about 420 mg per 100 g to about 400 mg per 100 g.

There are many brands and varieties of square bags. We randomly selected 25 breads of 7 brands to see what their sodium content is.

The standard ranking is based on the sodium content of the cube package set by the Center for Food Safety "Voluntary Sodium Reduction Target".

The lowest one is Jiadun young wheat square bag, 2 pieces are equivalent to 1/5 teaspoon of salt, the highest one is Yamazaki cut skin square bag with 670 mg of sodium per 100 grams, because eating 3-4 pieces without the skin is equivalent to 1/3 teaspoon of salt accounts for 30% of the daily upper limit.

Excessive sodium intake increases the risk of high blood pressure and stroke

Among the above 25 square packs, 10 of them exceed the upper limit. People should pay attention when eating to avoid excessive sodium intake.

According to data from the Center for Food Safety, the World Health Organization recommends that adults should consume less than 2000 mg of sodium per day (slightly less than one level teaspoon of salt/about 5 grams of salt). However, there is currently no international definition of high sodium foods. According to consensus, the British National Health Service recommends that every 100 grams of food contains more than 1.5 grams of salt (about 600 mg of sodium), it is considered high sodium food.

Over 8 adults consume too much sodium

According to information from the Department of Health quoted by the Center for Food Safety, Hong Kong people consume an average of 8.8 grams of salt per day, or about 3,420 mg of sodium. It is inferred that 86.3% of people exceed the WHO recommended sodium intake.

More than 40% of the sodium intake of local adults comes from condiments and sauces. Bread is second only to processed foods such as sausages and ham, ranking fourth, accounting for about 6%. Among them, Bai Fang Bao and Mai Fang Bao are the most popular in Hong Kong. Types of bread that are often eaten.

Many people like "heavy taste" diet, but the consequences of "eating heavy salty" can be serious.

Excessive sodium intake can increase the risk of high blood pressure, or cause heart disease, stroke and kidney failure.
