(CNN Spanish) -

The president of Argentina, Alberto Fernández, announced this Thursday that they signed a contract with Russia that will allow 300,000 people to be immunized with the Sputnik V vaccine before the end of the year.

In a press conference from the government headquarters, he said that, between January and February, they will have enough doses to vaccinate 10 million people.

In terms of delivery times, they estimate that they will have a first batch of around 600,000 doses to vaccinate 300,000 people before the end of 2020.

During January 2021, they plan to have enough doses to be administered to five million people and in February the rest of the necessary doses will be completed to reach 10 million.

He anticipated that these doses will allow vaccinating people at risk, which are approximately 13 million.

The Sputnik V vaccine must be approved by the National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (Anmat).

For this reason, the president reported that government and agency officials will travel to Russia next week to verify in situ and clear up their doubts about the production conditions and the quality of the vaccine.

The president said that, if approved in the country, he will be the first to put it on to show that it is reliable.

In addition, he thanked the President of Russia Vladimir Putin because, according to him, "he personally took care of helping this happen."

Argentina also signed contracts with Oxford – AstraZeneca and Covax.

As of Wednesday, the Argentine Ministry of Health confirmed 1,475,222 cases of coronavirus and 40,222 deaths.
