US President Donald Trump announced tonight that his country has recognized Morocco's sovereignty over the Western Sahara and in return Morocco will strengthen its ties with Israel and establish full diplomatic relations with it.
In a series of tweets on the social network Twitter, the president wrote: "Another historic breakthrough today. Our wonderful friends from the Kingdom of Morocco and Israel have agreed to establish full diplomatic relations, a tremendous breakthrough for peace in the Middle East."
Government officials say the breakthrough came after a lengthy effort led by Jared Kushner and Avi Berkowitz. According to the sources involved in the agreement, all the details were agreed, including direct flights between the countries. In the first phase, mutual representations will be established and later embassies will probably be established. A senior White House official told Israel Today: "This will be the biggest peace of the four. The Moroccans want it."
