The Fisheries and Conservation Department updated the "Red Leaf Index" on its website today (11th). The red leaves of Liquidambar formosa in Tai Lam Country Park reached grades C to B, that is, the leaves turned red and yellow from the beginning, which means that there are red leaves to enjoy!
During the period from December 5th to January 17th next year, on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, MTR buses will arrange special routes K66A between Long Ping Station and Tai Tong Shan Road.

The Agriculture and Fisheries Department will update the "Red Leaf Index" every Friday, which is divided into four levels: A (very red), B (red), C (yellow) and D (green).
According to today’s information, the leaves of Liquidambar formosana in Tai Lam Country Park are CB, but some of the green leaves have turned red and yellow.
Why did the leaves turn red?
The AFCD explained that in addition to chlorophyll, leaf cells also contain yellow carotenoids and red anthocyanin.
In the dry weather in autumn, under the cold temperature and strong light, chlorophyll will be decomposed faster, but it helps the leaf cells to produce anthocyanins without damaging carotene.
Therefore, some leaves will turn yellow and red in autumn.
In terms of transportation, the public can take MTR bus No. K66 or red minibus in Yuen Long, get off at Tai Tong Shan Road Bus Terminus and walk up the hill along the road for about 60 minutes to reach Feng Heung Lam.
