Update from December 11th, 9:24 am

-

Lufthansa is

considering a further expansion of its flight offer during the Christmas holidays at Munich Airport.

For the Canary Islands in particular, “the demand is high,” a Lufthansa spokeswoman told Merkur.de.

Many connections are already heavily used.

Therefore, consider further additional flights.

However, this presupposes that there are additional slots - i.e. take-off and landing rights - at the destination airports, it said.

According to the current status, Lufthansa is offering a total of 48 additional connections between December 19 and January 10 compared to the same period last year, 37 of them on the route between the Bavarian capital and the Canary Islands.

Because classic winter destinations like

Austria

or

Italy are

canceled

as holiday destinations this year

due to the

corona

pandemic, many people are drawn to the sun over the holidays.

The

Canaries in

particular

are currently in great demand.

According to the current status, a valid

PCR

test

is sufficient upon entry

.

The archipelago off the Moroccan coast is currently not a risk area.

Therefore, travelers do not currently have to be in quarantine after returning to Germany.

The desire to travel creates a heated controversy.

After criticism: Lufthansa defends additional flights over Christmas - "We are an airline"

Update from December 10th, 12.40 p.m.

-

Lufthansa

defended

the expansion of its flight offer at

Munich Airport

over the Christmas holidays against violent criticism.

“We are an airline and we are responding to the high demand with our offer,” a

Lufthansa

spokeswoman told Merkur.de * on Thursday.

Passengers would have to find out for themselves whether and under what conditions entry into the destination countries is possible.

This also applies to the Canaries, which are currently in particularly high demand.

According to the currently valid regulations, vacationers must

prove

a valid

PCR

test

upon entry

.

The archipelago in the Atlantic is currently not considered a risk area.

Therefore, travelers do not have to be quarantined when they return.

In social networks and on the Internet, numerous users had indirectly accused the airline and its passengers of a lack of solidarity.

"Couldn't it be that the holidaymakers introduce the virus and the Canaries become a hotspot?" Wrote a user on Merkur.de, for example.

In other statements, it was said that a vacation in the current environment is "irresponsible".

The

Lufthansa

was criticized.

“Earning money with all your might,” commented one user.

Other users, however, rejected the allegations: “What is the lack of solidarity about flying on vacation?

Everyone is currently still allowed to fly to the Canaries.

The Canary Islands have low case numbers and you can only enter with a negative test.

The airlines have hygiene requirements, the airplanes have high-performance ventilation systems with extreme filter capacity and it is mandatory to wear a mask on the plane, ”it said.

Additional flights from Lufthansa over Christmas - users pissed off: "Shameless, bad joke"

First report from December 9th, 10:20 am

- The

corona

pandemic

has plunged the aviation industry into a serious crisis.

Many airlines around the world are now fighting for bare survival.

This also applies to

Lufthansa

.

But over the Christmas holidays, the company beckons an unexpected additional business.

Because the ski areas in Germany, Austria and Italy are closed until the beginning of January, an unusually large number of people are drawn to the sun over the holidays.

That is why

Lufthansa is

massively

expanding

its range of services over the Christmas holidays.

From December 19 to January 10, the airline increased its offer by 48 flights compared to the same period last year.

For the

Canary Islands

alone

, the airline offers 37 additional connections with around 6,700 seats.

Lufthansa plans cause displeasure

But for many people, the

Lufthansa

plans and travel planning

meet

with complete incomprehension.

"Bad joke," writes a user in a comment on Merkur.de.

"And then massive restrictions a few months longer," writes another user.

Others refer to the

corona restrictions

in the

Free State

that have existed since Wednesday

.

“We have

a lockdown

in

Bavaria

(...).

I am only allowed to leave my house for 'good reason' (...).

Christmas only in the closest family circle (...) and the others are 'allowed' to go on vacation ??? “, it says.

Another user is really angry: "They are the ones who don't care ... .. and do what they want", it says in a comment.

Lufthansa plans: User warns against lulling himself into a false sense of security

Another user warns in the comment column that tourists shouldn't rely on the current regulations for the Canary Islands over the holidays.

According to the currently valid regulation, vacationers in the Canary Islands currently only need a negative

corona test

.

Because the archipelago in the Atlantic is not currently a risk area, travelers do not have to be

quarantined

after returning to Germany

.

"That," warns a user on Merkur.de, "could change very quickly."
