The new Tempo 30 sections on Seeshaupter Strasse in Penzberg cause trouble.

The signs are apparently overlooked by the car drivers.

A few days ago there was a lightning bolt in front of the Montessori school: Around a quarter of the drivers were driving too fast - an extraordinarily high figure.

Penzberg - Since October there have been 30 km / h signs on Seeshaupter Straße both in the area of the Montessori school and in the section in front of the “Steigenberger Hof” nursing home.

At that time they were set up at the request of the parliamentary group of “Penzberg together”.

However, the signs are overlooked or ignored by many drivers on the long route.

Obviously that was in the first few days, but even after a few weeks, many drivers drive too fast.

Results of tempo control: Almost a quarter is too fast

The impression is underpinned by the result of a speed control: The "Zweckverband Kommunales Dienstzentrum Oberland" had measured the speed for three hours on December 1st in the area of the Montessori school.

The city of Penzberg announced the evaluation at the request of our newspaper: According to this, a total of 1807 vehicles were measured between 10.35 and 13.33.

423 speed limits were recorded.

That is 23.41 percent.

The vast majority of them, namely 356 drivers, drove between six and twenty kilometers an hour too fast - so they were exactly within the limits that were previously permitted.

When asked for an assessment, the Penzberg police chief Jan Pfeil stated that this was a “very high rate of complaints”.

He could not remember such a high rate in his own controls.

The new speed control on Seeshaupter Straße has already caused a lot of talk within the Penzberg police station.

It was noticed that the association had checked at the beginning of December, said Pfeil.

His colleague Uwe Ledermüller therefore looked at the situation on site - without a speed camera.

He found that the number of drivers who are too fast is over 15 percent - which has now been confirmed by the evaluation of the Zweckverband control.

A high rate of complaints makes consequences necessary

The 15 percent quota has a meaning: In the Bavarian "Guideline for Police Traffic Monitoring" it says that if the quota is exceeded, the situation must be checked on site.

Uwe Ledermüller and Jan Pfeil speak of the "unity of construction and operation".

In this case, that means something like: The type of road - long, wide, straight, clear, without obstacles - contrasts with the speed limit.

According to Ledermüller, there are basically two options: check much more often or change something in the display, for example with larger signs or pictograms on the street.

Whereby he shows that he prefers the second variant.

Police chief Pfeil stated that a letter had been sent to the traffic authority of the district office.

The city, he said, will also have to investigate whether the Zweckverband measurement was a snapshot or not.

Clearer signs or lane markings

Mayor Stefan Korpan (CSU) does not seem particularly happy with the speed limit on Seeshaupter Straße.

A row of people had spoken to him about the control.

According to the city hall boss, he saw no need for action for Tempo 30 at this point, even if it is legally okay.

He points out the pedestrian lights nearby.

The Tempo 30, so Korpan, was not ordered by the city, but by the district office.

The reason at that time was an application from “Penzberg together”.

Korpan also says that you have to act in the event of frequent exceedances, for example with clearer signs or markings.

According to him, structural changes are also conceivable in the final analysis - although the planned roundabout at the junction to Birkenstrasse could have a corresponding effect.

The new Tempo 30 regulations were also discussed in the November meeting of the city council.

Jack Eberl (FLP) had already suggested clearer information and markings there.

As a problem he also mentioned that the end of the Tempo 30 range is not displayed.

Public order office manager Peter Holzmann stated that he would clarify this with the district office.
