We will still have to wait.
January 7, 2021 “
is not a reopening date
” for theaters and cinemas, but rather a “
reopening
” date.
The Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot recalled this Friday morning at the microphone of RMC and BFMTV.
Certainly “
theaters are not dangerous places
”, but “
the problem is the mixing of populations
”.
The deadline announced Thursday by Jean Castex will therefore mark a reassessment of the situation, and not the raising of the curtain in these places closed since October 30.

"
It's heartbreaking, for the culture community, it's heartbreaking for the Minister of Culture,
" deplores Roselyne Bachelot, who recalls that the health situation is "
extremely serious
".
Cinemas, theaters and museums will have to keep the curtain down "
three more weeks
", the Prime Minister announced Thursday.
But it was necessary to understand at least three more weeks to hear the Minister of Culture.
Their situation will be reviewed in early January by the executive, which will make its decision depending on the evolution of the epidemic.
The risk of "
stop-and-go
"
Because, for Roselyne Bachelot, reopening on December 15 as announced by Emmanuel Maccron, would amount to taking the risk of closing these places in the event of a deterioration in the health situation.
This “
stop and go
” strategy
would be even worse than a shutdown until further notice, said the minister.
"
What would be terrible, for the world of culture, is what in good French is called stop-and-go
," she quips.
Reopen on December 15, with all the difficulties of reopening, ticketing, repackaging rooms, rehearsals to possibly close them on January 2, 3 or 7 ... I believe that there, we were killing culture if we had do that.

Words likely to upset Charles Berling even more, who appeared very angry Thursday evening after the abandonment of a reopening on December 15.
"
We are killing a sector that is really struggling to get up," said
the comedian on LCI.
He believes that culture is "
sacrificed on the altar of absolutely appalling consumerism
".
"
I hear the distress of artists who would like to be able to exercise their work and their passion
", for his part tempered the spokesperson for the government on the LCI set.
Gabriel Attal recalls that "
the reopening of places of culture was conditioned on the fact that we control the epidemic with 5000 contaminations per day
".
He therefore considers that it would not be “
responsible
” to reopen cinemas, theaters and cinemas in such a context.
“
We will continue to support culture,
” he promises.
