travel destinations of Germans in 2021
?
A
travel company
has started a survey - the result is clear.
Frankfurt - Sip the cocktail somewhere south of the
Côte d'Azur
on the
beach
with the sound of the sea.
Or: In
Rome
, circle the Colosseum once, maybe even twice, and then enjoy a “caffè doppio” in the early evening sun in a small café away from the hustle and bustle.
What was a real
vacation
for many Germans in recent years
has turned into a distant dream in 2020.
In times of Corona *, we will say sometime, 2050.
Hopefully.
Vacation despite Corona: travel destinations for Germans in 2021
Because there are several
vaccines against the corona virus
in the starting blocks,
travel
far away from home
could
become a reality again for many Germans in
2021
.
In 2020, the
holiday fell
through due to various travel warnings issued by the federal government.
The number of corona risk areas in Germany * is still immense.
A
travel warning
applies to well over 100 countries
; the Robert Koch Institute maintains a precise list.
And so it happens that all hopes are now resting on 2021.
But where do Germans want to travel in the coming year?
2020 were the
Baltic and North Sea and the Black Forest
, a
popular tourist destination
.
For 2021, a survey and data on search queries on the Internet by “Hometogo”, a search engine for holiday homes and apartments, provide information.
The result: surprised.
Holidays in Germany instead of Spain: These are the travel destinations for Germans in 2021
“Hometogo” commissioned an external survey to compare it with the 16 million search queries on its own site.
The search period relates to January 1 to October 27, 2020. According to this,
Germans
want to
spend more of their vacation at home in 2021
as well
.
44.4 percent of search queries are for
travel destinations in Germany
.
The favorites: North and Baltic Seas and Sylt.

The North Sea is still a popular holiday destination for Germans.

According to “Hometogo”, Germany was already in the lead last year with 27.55 percent of search queries.
Compared to 2021, however, the proportion has increased by 61.15 percent.

Holiday destination 2021: Croatia and Italy far behind
The
travel destinations abroad
for 2021
are far behind
.
Croatia
comes in second
with just 11.05 percent of search queries.
A year earlier it was 14.69 percent.
Italy
(7.79 percent) and
Spain
(5.37 percent)
follow in third and fourth place
.
That is a decrease of 32.69 and 44.31 percent respectively compared to the previous year.
After all, the Germans' desire to travel does not seem completely broken.
70 percent of the respondents answered the question “
Are you planning to travel in the next 12 months and book a holiday accommodation for this?”
A “Yes”.
61 percent would rather prefer a holiday home on their
vacation in
2021
, 31 percent would rather book a hotel.
Far behind is an overnight stay in a campervan with 3 percent of the survey votes.

Holidays 2021: Not only the travel destination is changing
As
peak season for 2021
, 61 percent of respondents said the summer.
57 percent are planning their vacation in spring and 33 percent want to travel in winter (December 2020 to February 2021).
However,
due to the high number of infections related to the corona pandemic
, a timely
vacation
is not a good star.
While Chancellor Angela Merkel is calling for all ski areas in Europe to be closed *, Italy has imposed the lockdown on Christmas and New Year's Eve *.

Germans also have a clear idea of
the
type of travel destination
.
63 percent of the respondents prefer a vacation on the beach, 60 percent prefer the national parks and general destinations in nature.
City trips received 52 percent of the vote, while ski resorts and mountains only received 26 percent approval.
