Pfizer and BioNTech Vaccine Distribution Begins in the United States 1:55
(CNN) -
Dr. Robert Redfield, director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), accepted the recommendation of the agency's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices that the vaccine against covid-19 from Pfizer and BioNTech is administered to people from the age of 16.
This means that coronavirus vaccines can now be administered in the United States.
This Saturday, committee members voted in favor of the recommendation and added the vaccine to the CDC vaccination schedule.
On Friday, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration granted an emergency use authorization for the covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech.
Pfizer began shipping its vaccine on Sunday, and the first injections are expected Monday morning.
