Nigeria: Apparently more than 300 schoolboys abducted

In an armed attack on a school in Nigeria, strangers apparently kidnapped at least 333 children. The case is reminiscent of attacks by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

After an attack by armed men on a school in northern Nigeria, more than 330 schoolboys who were apparently abducted are missing.

The target of the attack on Friday was the state high school in the city of Kankara, which has a total of 839 students.

The AP news agency speaks of around 400 kidnapped students, according to dpa, 333 children are missing.

In the attack, unknown attackers shot around with automatic weapons, the dpa quotes a police spokesman.

Eyewitnesses reported that numerous children were abducted.

Defense minister and major general apparently have information about their whereabouts of the children.

Initially, no one confessed to the fact.

Memories of kidnapped school girls in 2014

In 2014, the kidnapping of 276 school girls in northern Nigeria by the Islamist group Boko Haram caused a worldwide sensation.

Around 100 of them are still missing today.

Who was behind the crime in the current case remained unclear at first.

According to initial investigations, it could also be criminals who want to extort ransom.

The Nigerian newspaper »Punch« reported on protest actions in Katsina on Sunday, which were also directed against the government.

Demonstrators had shouted "We want our children back" and "We want security in Kankara".
