Saint-Étienne: strike of couriers who block the delivery of fast food restaurants

Couriers working for the main meal delivery platforms were blocking deliveries from several fast food establishments in Saint-Étienne this Sunday evening, December 13, an AFP correspondent noted.

A hundred delivery people on two wheels were distributed shortly after 6 p.m. in front of McDonald's, Burger King, KFC, O'Tacos restaurants in different neighborhoods and the Steel shopping center, open since September in the west of the city.

These young people, some of them students, have symbolically placed their insulated hot food transport backpacks on the ground under the banner of Uber Eats, Deliveroo or Just Eat in front of the entrance to the establishment where they are parked.

"Fed up"

When a delivery man comes to pick up an order, they invite him to join them in this strike scheduled for the whole evening by a majority of the 150 or so delivery men who work in Saint-Étienne.

One of them explains that this first action is due to

"fed up with the drop in (their) remuneration of more than 30% since the start of confinement"

Shortly after the start of their action, the websites of the delivery platforms displayed

“temporarily unavailable”

for taking orders in the majority of restaurants in the city.
