The first shipments of Pfizer's corona vaccines arrived in Israel last week, and by the end of next month, one and a half million doses will be in Israel.

Now, ahead of the start of the immunization campaign, the Ministry of Health is preparing for two main scenarios that are expected to happen depending on the degree of the population's response to the vaccination.

The first scenario for which the ministry is preparing is a situation in which the Israeli population will behave as in any seasonal vaccination of influenza vaccines - and only about 15% -20% of the general population will be vaccinated, with most of this segment being at risk including the elderly and those with background diseases.

According to the Ministry of Health, this scenario is more realistic and more likely to happen.

In such a case, Israel will have to deal with the plague for many more months, but mortality and morbidity have dropped significantly.

Also, many will have to go into isolation due to contact with a verified patient and the economy will return to normal, however mass events will not take place in the coming year.

The second, and more optimistic, scenario paints a picture of a wider public response - and about 50% -60% of the population will be vaccinated against corona.

In such a situation, Israel can reach herd immunity as early as April, and even become a green state.

But this scenario also includes an obstacle: those who return abroad are not vaccinated, and will bring the virus back to Israel.

However, if the amount of population of this magnitude is indeed vaccinated, the patient returning to the country will not be able to spread the disease widely.

Fear due to low response to influenza vaccine

Israel has purchased a number of vaccines against corona intended for the second scenario, but the Ministry of Health is concerned about the public unresponsiveness of receiving a flu vaccine, as a figure from which public response to corona vaccines can be inferred.

Against influenza, twice as many vaccines were given this year, but only the general population came to be vaccinated and the vaccine centers were left with many doses without demand.

In every vaccine there are those who refuse to be vaccinated.

The ministry fears that Israelis will behave similarly in the face of corona vaccines, and to prevent this, they will soon begin a nationwide campaign to encourage vaccination.

In addition, they will recruit the heads of the Arab and ultra-Orthodox sectors, in an attempt to stimulate the community to get vaccinated.

The passport to encourage immunization

The Ministry of Health is also working on the "green passport" program for vaccinators, in which relief will be given to those who agree to receive the vaccine.

The purpose of the program is, among other things, to encourage the population to get vaccinated, so that those who hold a passport will be granted privileges and special permits that the rest of the population does not have.

According to the plan, each vaccinated person will receive the green passport about two weeks after receiving the second dose of the vaccine through a dedicated app.

The new passport will allow vaccinators to board flights without inspections, enter cultural performances and the green tourist islands.

Director General of the Ministry of Health, Professor Hezi Levy, referring breakfast opponents of the vaccine, arguing that any vaccine there are those who refuse to be vaccinated, but the majority of the population smart enough to understand the importance of vaccination against corona.

Currently, the amount of vaccine still small, and HMOs waiting for the big stock More vaccines already this coming weekend, so the HMOs still do not want to start the vaccination campaign, which requires complex logistics and opening vaccine sites, and stop it in the middle because there are not enough vaccines.
