The Ministry of Culture celebrates the centenary of the birth of Nasir Shura, one of the founders of contemporary Syrian plastic art and one of the big names that contributed to the publication of the study of art academically as well as his uniqueness in the Impressionist school and nature painting.

Shura, who holds an art exhibition for his work as part of the Days of Plastic Art celebration at Dar Al-Assad for Culture and Arts, won many awards and honors throughout his career, the most important of which was the Syrian Order of Merit in 1982.

Shura was born in Damascus in 1920 to a pharmacist father and his uncle, the well-known historian Muhammad Kurd Ali, and he loved painting since his childhood. Shura to continue.

Shura began from a young age to hold exhibitions. In 1936 he held a joint exhibition at the National Museum in Damascus, then in 1938 he organized an exhibition at the Lake Institute “Basil Al-Assad Now” and in the same year he held an exhibition alone in the Arab Club in Damascus.

After Shura obtained high school, he tried to study fine arts in Italy, but the circumstances of the Second World War prevented him from that, so he joined the Faculty of Fine Arts at Cairo University and graduated from it in 1947 and upon his return he participated with a number of pioneering artists and those returning from abroad in an exhibition held in the First Preparation Secondary In Damascus, he presented many paintings that reflect his artistic experience while studying in Cairo.

After the name Shura became at the forefront of Syrian artists, it became a destination for art enthusiasts, students and artists to benefit from his artistic expertise, as he was able to make art interact with reality and achieve artistic originality, which means enriching painting with the colors of the environment.

Shura, who worked as a teacher of art education in secondary schools, contributed to the establishment of the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Damascus in 1960, which later became the College of Fine Arts and was appointed its agent in 1970 and had a role in establishing most of the art collections in Syria.

He also worked through his long experience on his paintings in different and original artistic formulas that reflect his vision and imagination, so he was passionate about landscapes that he merged with through his harmonious and harmonious colors, to be influenced later by the Impressionist school that was at the forefront of its founders in Syria, and from his important paintings and the Arab tent and Karam Al-Tin.

On November 24, 1992, Shura died in Damascus, leaving his studio in the al-Muhajireen area as a storehouse, telling about his eternal legacy and generations of artists who were taught by him or were influenced by his style.
