In the video: The Houthis attacked oil tankers in Saudi Arabia with cruise missiles (from Twitter)

An explosion occurred last night (Monday) in a tanker off the coast of the Saudi port city of Jeddah, in another incident in which a vessel off the coast of the kingdom was hit.

Shipping company BW Rhine, which sailed under the Singapore flag, said the tanker was hit by an "external source".

She said one of the 22 crew members on board was unharmed, but she warned that there could be an oil leak.

Saudi Arabia has not yet confirmed the explosion that hit the strategic port for its oil supply.

However, just last month a naval mine hit another tanker and Saudi authorities blamed the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

Earlier this month a cargo ship was mysteriously attacked off the coast of the small Yemenite port city of Niston.

The UK's maritime trade activities, an organization operating under the Royal Navy, have warned passing ships in the area to exercise caution and said the investigation into the explosion is ongoing.

Dryad Global, a marine intelligence company, also reported the blast.

At this point, no source has provided an explanation for its source.

The Fifth United States Navy, which patrols the waters of the Middle East, has not yet responded.

Iran-backed Houthis have used naval mines against Saudi coalition forces throughout the war that broke out more than five years ago.

However, they did not accept responsibility for the attack last month.

Dryad Global said that if the Houthis were responsible for the latest blast, it would be "a significant change in their capabilities and objectives."

Jeddah lies on the shores of the Red Sea, which is a strategic shipping lane for transporting goods and energy, so its mine is endangering not only Saudi Arabia but ships from around the world.

The mines may be swept away by the changing waves of waves in the Red Sea.

The Red Sea has been mine before - according to a panel of UN experts investigating the war in Yemen, 19 vessels reported in 1984 on the impact of mines, only one mine has located and dismantled.

In summer 2019 several oil tankers were attacked in the Gulf waters, at the height of tensions between Iran And the United States. In Washington, Tehran was blamed for the explosions, but she denied.
