New York-SANA Syria confirmed that international cooperation in confronting the Corona pandemic requires the review of some member states' governments

New York-Sana

Syria affirmed that international cooperation in confronting the Coronavirus pandemic requires some governments of UN member states to review their policies based on aggression, impose unilateral coercive measures, siege and collective punishment of peoples, and uphold the principles of international law and the provisions of the United Nations Charter.

In his speech to the 31st special session of the United Nations General Assembly in response to the Coronavirus epidemic, Minister Counselor Qusay Al-Dahhak, member of the permanent Syrian delegation to the United Nations, said that the Corona pandemic confirmed the interconnectedness between our peoples and our countries and our unity in facing a challenge that did not differentiate between a small or large country ... developing It also confirms the necessity for some member state governments to review their policies based on aggression, impose unilateral coercive measures, blockade and collective punishment of peoples, and stop being arrogant. On error and upholding the principles of international law and the provisions of the United Nations Charter.

Al-Dahhak expressed regret for the politicization of the issue of international cooperation in dealing with the Corona epidemic and its failure by those who sought to spread accusations and hold responsibilities and use this pandemic as a tool to settle their accounts with certain countries, so they called the virus unacceptable politicized labels, indicating in this regard that Syria has suffered for years and is still due to politicization Some hostile governments have many issues, including those of a humanitarian, relief and development character, and use them as weapons and tools to serve agendas and plans directed against them and the region.

Al-Dahhak said: Despite the difficult living and economic conditions imposed by the spread of the "Covid 19" pandemic, some member states and regional blocs continued to impose unilateral coercive measures on many of our member states, including Syria, thus striking at the expense of the appeals of the United Nations Secretary-General and senior representatives of the international organization to end this Illegal measures that limited the ability of Syrian state institutions to respond to the pandemic, despite the Syrian government’s utmost efforts in this regard.

He added that some Western governments have deliberately tried to absolve themselves of the crime of targeting Syrians with coercive measures in their food, medicine and basic living needs, including infant formula, surgical equipment and medical devices.

Al-Dahhak added that talking about the effects of the "Covid 19" epidemic and international cooperation to address it requires us to call for strengthening international efforts under the umbrella of the United Nations to confront the grave challenges that threaten international peace and security, impede the implementation of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and harm peoples, their security and well-being, which requires combating terrorism and drying up Its financing resources, accountability of the governments of the countries that support it, ending the occupation and putting an end to the acts of aggression and criminal practices associated with it and the plunder of the wealth and resources of countries, including the American, Turkish and Israeli occupation of parts of the Syrian territories.

Al-Dahhak pointed out that despite the "Covid 19" epidemic, some countries continue to exploit the suffering of refugees, including Syrian refugees, by turning their humanitarian cause into a political paper to blackmail the European Union and try to conclude suspicious deals at their expense sometimes or to put pressure on the Syrian government at other times.

He stressed that the Syrian state is working to ensure the safe, dignified and voluntary return of the displaced to their areas of residence and has made, in cooperation with friendly countries and partners in humanitarian work, great efforts to restore security and stability and create an appropriate environment for the return and reconstruction of what has been destroyed by terrorism, referring in this context to the international conference on the return of Syrian refugees that was held. In Damascus last month, Syria looks forward to supporting the United Nations and its member states for the return of the displaced, reconstruction, economic recovery and the provision of basic services away from political conditions and donor dictations that are inconsistent with the principles of humanitarian work.
