The Attorney General of the United States, William Barr, resigned from his post and will leave it on December 23, before Christmas, President Donald Trump updated tonight (Tuesday) on his Twitter account.
Trump added that Bar's place in the position will be filled by his current deputy - Jeff Rosen.
In his resignation letter, attached to the tweet, Barr wrote that the Justice Department would continue to investigate allegations of fraud in the November presidential election.
The letter of resignation came shortly after Bar briefed the president on the Justice Department's investigation into Trump's campaign allegations of election fraud.
He pledged in the letter that the allegations would "continue to be investigated."
"While our country is so divided, it is incumbent on all levels of government and all the agencies that are subordinate to them, to do everything possible to ensure fair elections and improve public confidence in their results," Barr added in his letter.
