The entrance to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu in Peru was closed to the public since Monday due to protests and stoppages of activities in the district.
As reported by the Ministry of Culture of Cusco, the measure seeks to safeguard the integrity of visitors and it is expected to reopen the site when "the situation is restored."
According to the state agency Andina, the residents are demanding a greater frequency of trains and a reduction in the price of the ticket.

For its part, the Ministry of Transportation reported this Thursday that it held a meeting in Cusco with local authorities, the concessionaire and the railway operators, where improvements were agreed in the train stops to Machu Picchu.
The conflict began this Wednesday, according to local media reported.
Meanwhile, the operating companies Inca Rail and PeruRail announced the suspension of their train services.
After nearly eight months of being closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Machu Picchu, one of the world's most popular natural wonders, reopened its sanctuary in early November.
