New parking concept for Garmisch-Partenkirchen: majority accepts fees

The debate is controversial, but the result of a Tagblatt survey is clear: A clear majority is in favor of the new Garmisch-Partenkirchen parking lot concept with fees to curb the rush of excursions in the winter lockdown.

The debate is controversial, but the result of a Tagblatt survey is clear: A clear majority is in favor of the new Garmisch-Partenkirchen parking lot concept with fees to curb the rush of excursions in the winter lockdown.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- The topic is local talk and is making waves: Garmisch-Partenkirchen's mayor Elisabeth Koch (CSU), the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn (BZB) and GaPa Tourismus announced last Friday in a press release that from December 18th (the extended Christmas holidays begin the next day) the two large parking lots on Hausberg and Kreuzeck are regularly cleared and gritted despite the ski lockdown.

Toilet facilities are also open.

Lifts and mountain railways in Corona compulsory break

The background: Although the lifts and mountain railways are at a standstill during the Corona break, winter sports enthusiasts and those looking for relaxation come to Werdenfelser Land - and need an appropriate infrastructure.

Touring in particular is the mega trend this season.

But the days of free parking will be over: if you park your car in one of these areas, you will have to pay for it in the future.

A day ticket costs 15 euros - or five euros for those who have an annual or season ticket.

And how is this regulation being received?

We wanted to know about this during an online vote that ran from Friday evening to Monday morning and met with great interest.

Almost 4,000 votes were cast during this period.

The result is unmistakable: Most of them, namely 54 percent (2170 votes), support the concept and agreed with the verdict “Great thing.

Was long overdue. "

37 percent (1460) reject the whole thing - and commented with “Such a rubbish.

Total rip off! ".

9 percent (364) were undecided ("Don't know. Let's see if it works.").

Also interesting: Most of the votes came from Munich, followed by Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberammergau.

The survey does not purport to be representative.

It cannot be ruled out that some people voted several times, for example with different devices.

Emotional debate

On Merkur Online and Facebook, however, the topic is being discussed lively and sometimes very emotionally, with the critics on these platforms having the upper hand.

“You are rip-offs!

The main thing is to get more money out of people's pockets, ”complains a Facebooker in an opinion piece.

"Please do not.

The ski passes are already so expensive, ”says another.

Some fear that the number of wildlife parkers in the district will increase - to the detriment of the locals.

“The residential area under the local mountain will then be the alternative parking space.

These are great holidays for the residents, ”reads about.

And there are more frequent warnings against losing guests to the competition.

“You don't have to pay for parking anywhere in Austria.

This is how you can drive customers away, ”argues one user.

“The Garmisch people saw on the branch they are sitting on,” says another.

But there are also voices that positively assess the parking lot management and the associated fees.

“That is long overdue,” says one supporter, for example.

“Finally a good solution,” says another - and continues: “15 euros is a bit too much, but when it comes to making snow, it's a great compromise.

I hope that you can go on ski tours independently in Garmisch and thank you for the solution. "
