On the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Peasants' Day, the General Union of Peasants, with the participation of a number of volunteers and activists, carried out a massive afforestation campaign in all governorates to plant a million trees in one day under the title “Plant a tree… build a homeland” that included many forest sites that were affected by fires.

The head of the General Peasants 'Union, Ahmed Saleh Al-Ibrahim, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent that on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the General Peasants' Union and the Day of the Peasants, the union launched today a large afforestation campaign, considering that the decision to be present today in Lattakia is due to the great losses that resulted from the fires in its countryside.

Hikmat Saqr, head of the Latakia Farmers Union, indicated that the afforestation campaign today aims to plant 30 dunums of forest, which is as a voluntary participation of the Union in rehabilitating the affected forest areas, and the campaign today planted about 1000 plants.

The head of the Forestry Department in the Lattakia Agriculture Directorate, Engineer Basem Duba, pointed out to allocating Partition No. 1 from Khirbet Solas to be afforested. The directorate provided all the necessary facilities and assistance, as well as all types of planters available, including laurel, fruit pine, rice and carob.

President of the Dafla Association, Hassan Sheikh Suleiman, and Muhammad Ibrahim Hassan, President of the Agricultural Association of Jableh and Majd Halloum from the Solas Fire Station, participated in the campaign expressing their love for the land and their sorrow for the forests affected by the recent fires.

Asaad Faddah, Muhammad Ali and Maher Nofal Asaad also participated in the campaign to rehabilitate the affected forest areas and expressed their determination to participate in all campaigns until all the damaged forests were afforested, to return to what they were beautiful green.

In the countryside of Damascus, the Governorate's Farmers Union, in cooperation with the Directorate of Agriculture, carried out an afforestation campaign on the Damascus International Airport road after the seventh bridge, which included planting 5 hectares of about 2000 plants such as caseonia, al-Tarfa, olives and acacia.

In a statement to the delegate of SANA, the director of the province's agriculture, Eng. Irfan Ziadeh, explained that this campaign is continuing to cover the entire 800-hectare afforestation plan in the governorate and includes the areas of Qatana, Al-Zabadani, Yabroud and Rakhla, pointing out that the total production of the Agriculture Directorate's nurseries of forest trees amounted to 1.1 million forest trees, while the production of Fruitful plants 350 thousand seedlings, and they were distributed to farmers at nominal prices.

In Homs, the Peasants Union carried out a campaign to afforest the Asilah site in the governorate countryside.

Eng. Muhammad Nazih Al-Rifai, Director of Homs Agriculture, indicated that the farmers' union has partnered with the farmers' union to afforest the Asilah site with up to ten dunums that will be planted with wild almonds, in addition to cutting the contact lines with the farmers' lands in Al-Sarw.

Engineer Yahya al-Saqqa, head of the Peasants ’Union in Homs, confirmed that the campaign aims to restore all that was destroyed and burned and rehabilitate the damaged sites.

Muhammad Khair Al-Hamad, head of the forest site in Asilah, pointed to the restoration of this site since last year, after it was sabotaged by terrorists, as ten hectares were afforested, and this year twenty hectares are to be planted in stages with wild almonds, bitter almonds, cypress, pine nuts, and pine nuts.

The Director of Agriculture, Engineer Rafi` Abu al-Aish, indicated that the campaign included the cultivation of 350 seedlings of the canopy varieties of Azdrecht, eucalyptus, zonia, almonds and fan palm trees, which are produced by the agricultural nurseries in Deir Ezzor, which produce more than 200 thousand plantings annually.

The participants in the campaign stressed the need to preserve the tree and restore the green cover to the city of Deir Ezzor, and to join efforts by all to restore what was destroyed by terrorism, noting the heroism of the Syrian Arab Army in defeating terrorist organizations from most of the country.

In Hama, an afforestation campaign was implemented today targeting the cultivation of 5 hectares in the Abu Kiflon site in the Al-Ghab area and the cultivation of 10 hectares in the Al-Mushrifa site in the Masyaf region.

In statements to the SANA reporter, the Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, Eng. Abdo Yassin Al-Ali, head of the Peasants' Union in Aleppo, explained that the afforestation campaign aims to compensate for the loss of vegetation due to the exposure of forests to fires and part of it for unjust cutting and damage due to terrorism.

Engineer Radwan Harsouni, Director of Aleppo Agriculture, pointed out the importance of caring for trees after planting, watering and protecting them from overgrazing, noting the implementation of the nursery plan to produce 300 thousand seedlings to cover afforestation and tree planting plans.

The farmer, Hassoun Al-Dandan, from the Maskana region, stated that he is participating in the afforestation campaign to replace the trees that he had cut and uprooted by terrorism, while the participant Samia said that planting trees aims to restore the green carpet of the land, and Issa Al-Hamdan indicated that he is participating in planting trees to preserve the vegetation cover and protect the environment.

While Ismail Khilou noted that he is happy to participate in the afforestation campaign and replant every tree uprooted by terrorism.

Ahmad Mansour, the Secretary of the Aleppo branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, participated in the afforestation campaign in Aleppo, Ahmed Yassin, deputy head of the executive office of the Aleppo Provincial Council, and a crowd of residents of Maskanah.
