Boris Johnson is psychologically preparing the UK for the worst-case scenario in its relations with the European Union, namely the same status as Australia (which its Prime Minister has described as appalling).
In his campaign for Brexit in the first half of 2016, the thunderous Boris had promised his Eurosceptic constituents all sorts of wonders in the privileged trade relationship Britain would establish with the United States.
Once elected prime minister, he flattered Donald Trump more than reason, in order to establish a strategic partnership of equals with the Americans.
Nothing came.
Boris Johnson was wrong, he will never obtain his privileged partnership, with the Republicans as with the Democrats.
Because America is a puritanical nation despising flattery and a self-confident superpower, not conceiving today of a dialogue of equals with any other state, except China.
