He had already made the application to her in August.
"There were two of us in the restaurant, so I asked Lani if it wasn't time to steer our relationship on a sensible path," recalls Hofer.
“When I asked her if she wanted to marry me, she cried.” One day later, the 41-year-old is said to have started planning.

At first, hardly anyone knew about their relationship.
