The attorney general of Venezuela, Tarek William Saab, reported on Twitter this Monday the arrest for the imputation of the apparent owner of the ship that was wrecked en route to Trinidad and Tobago and that, according to updated, left at least 20 dead.
Saab added that they are investigating whether human trafficking crimes were committed.
He added that the authorities requested an international red alert against a citizen and several search warrants in the country.
The objective is to achieve the capture of another six people who would be linked to the shipwreck.
"The Public Ministry ratifies its commitment to punish those responsible for these serious crimes, who have organized as mafias that operate between Sucre and the island of Trinidad to promote, for infrahuman purposes, human trafficking and smuggling," concluded Saab .
CNN is trying to find out if those named have a legal representative.
The bodies of at least 14 people were found this weekend on the northeast coast of Venezuela.
The discovery took place near the city of Güiria, in the state of Sucre, the Venezuelan Ministry of Interior Relations reported this Sunday in a statement.
The victims would be part of a group that allegedly set sail last week for the island.
