The company that owns the oil tanker that was exposed to an explosion off the Saudi port of Jeddah announced that an "external source" is responsible for the accident.
Agence France-Presse quoted the Singapore-based owner as saying in a statement today that “the tanker (BW Ryan), which carries the Singapore flag, was hit by an external source while it was unloading its cargo, causing an explosion and a fire,” indicating that there were no casualties amongst individuals Tanker crew.
Shipping sources announced earlier today that an oil tanker exploded off the port of Jeddah, without giving additional details.
The British maritime trade operations indicated that the accident occurred yesterday off the main port of Jeddah on the Red Sea, which is a distribution center for the Saudi Oil Company (Aramco).
For its part, the London-based Marine Information Company (Dry Global) confirmed the explosion, indicating that it occurred in a ship "while it was carrying out operations in the main berth at Aramco port in Jeddah."
This accident comes after an explosion last month in a Greek oil tanker anchored in the port of Shuqaiq, south of Saudi Arabia.
