Jean-Luc Mélenchon has released his finest pen.
In a letter - unveiled Monday by AFP - the head of La France Insoumise calls on Fabien Roussel, the national secretary of the Communist Party, to ask him to make an alliance with LFI during the presidential election of 2022.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon had already convinced them to follow him in 2012 and 2017.
The rebellious tenor reminds his communist counterpart of

“two previous alliances”
which collected

“more than seven million votes”

And that creates a duty for us to persevere.

assures Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
The LFI candidate forgets a little quickly the hot spells that occurred during the 2017 presidential election. The tension was such that the two formations had not managed to agree to form a single group in the National Assembly after the legislative elections.
“Of course we would have mistakes to blame each other for.

Last argument of weight brought by the deputy of Marseille: the mark of unity that such an agreement would offer, while socialists and ecologists are each moving towards an independent candidacy.

Communists keep the suspense going
For the Insoumis, an alliance with the Communists would also have a double advantage, more unofficial.
It would facilitate obtaining the 500 sponsorships of elected officials necessary to be a candidate.
Support from the Communists would also significantly broaden the militant base.
If the Place du Colonel-Fabien party is in decline, its troops are still numerous, and have inherited a militant discipline.
Always useful for a presidential campaign.
For the time being, the Communists are maintaining the suspense.
A vote by activists is scheduled between May 7 and 9, but the tendency is rather - for the moment - in favor of an independent candidacy.
It must be said that this idea was part of Fabien Roussel's backbone, during his surprise election at the head of the PCF in November 2018. His mantra was then:
