"There was no miracle and there were no wonders ten years ago":
Zivia Riven, the mother of the late Elad Riven who perished in the Carmel disaster and is only 16 years old, participated tonight (Tuesday) in a Hanukkah candle lighting event in the synagogue bearing his name in the Ramot Sapir neighborhood of Haifa.
"Hanukkah is not a simple holiday for me and it is a holiday we are not able to celebrate," she said.
"When I look at what Elad left behind, from his works during the time he studied in kindergarten and school - I found many works related to Hanukkah," she added in tears.
"Our daughters, who were born after the disaster, ask me why I did not stop Elad and prevent him from going up to the burning Carmel. I told them that Elad was a child of giving and helping others, and even I as his mother could not stop him from helping the fire brigade that day."
Haifa Mayor Einat Klish-Rotem also took part in lighting the candles.
She lives near the Riven family, and the late Elad was a coach in the karate club of her two children. "I remember the Hanukkah holiday we celebrated a decade shortly after the severe fire in Carmel, and we can never forget that terrible day," she said. Heavy for the city of Haifa and the country.
Deer, I can not even imagine what you are going through as a mother who lost her son.
The admirable model for all of us.
You're a bigger woman than life.
Elad - as a volunteer boy who immigrated to Carmel to save lives - is proof of the wonderful youth we have in Haifa. "
