A source in the competent authorities stated in a press statement that based on the security follow-up and the availability of confirmed information on the activity of a gang consisting of several people in the field of smuggling counterfeit gold ounces, the gang was penetrated and five of its members were arrested with the suspected crime and caught with the forged ounces in Damascus and their possession was seized 275 ounces. The source pointed out that the ounces are forged 100 percent, where 87 percent of copper and 13 percent of zinc were cast and do not contain gold at all, indicating that the search and prosecution is still ongoing against all those involved in forgery.
