The vice president of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Peña, reported on Tuesday about the tightening of restrictive measures in Santo Domingo and five other provinces due to the increase in coronavirus infections in the country.
Peña explained that as of this Tuesday the new provisions come into effect, which include a new curfew schedule for the National District and the provinces of Santo Domingo, Santiago, Duarte, La Vega and Puerto Plata.
The curfew will be from Monday to Sunday from 7 pm to 5 am local time, with free transit until 9 pm The vice president pointed out that in this way a “reasonable time” is ensured for citizens to reach their homes.
From this Tuesday, the Executive Branch ordered the closure of bars and restaurants from 7 pm, when previously it was at 9 pm
In addition, the provision that only allows these establishments to operate at 70% of their capacity is maintained in the Dominican Republic.
The prohibition of meetings in public places of more than 10 people and the obligation to use masks in public places are also maintained.
Presidential Decree 698-20 also prohibits the sale of alcoholic beverages after 6 p.m.

Peña indicated that these new measures will remain in force until necessary and that their effectiveness will depend on all citizens, and not just the government.
In addition, to mitigate the spread of covid-19 during the festivities of this season, on December 25 and January 1, the curfew hours are maintained from 7 pm to 5 am, but with free transit until 1 am

According to the epidemiological data updated until this Monday, so far this month more than 10,000 infections have been confirmed and 34 people have died of covid-19.
According to official data, the Dominican Republic registered 613 cases of covid-19 reported in the last 24 hours on Monday and three deaths were reported.
In total, the country accumulates 155,797 cases of covid-19 and 2,367 deaths from the disease.
