The corona lockdown over Christmas was decided: What can you do in Lower Saxony - and what is forbidden?

We give an overview of the rules and penalties.

  • There are a

    few exceptions to

    the

    Corona

    *

    lockdown

    at

    Christmas

    .

  • More people from more households are allowed to meet on the holidays.

  • A

    fine of

    up to 25,000 euros

can be imposed for rule violations.

Göttingen - The

corona rules

at

Christmas

were discussed again on Sunday (December 13th, 2020) in the conference call between the Chancellor and the heads of government of the federal states: How many people are allowed to celebrate Christmas together?

Is there a difference between celebrations in

private

and

public spaces

?

What

restrictions

and measures do I have to

follow

on

Christmas Eve

and the following days?

What are the

penalties

if I break these rules?

We provide answers to these questions.

Corona rules at Christmas in Lower Saxony: who can celebrate with whom?

For the Christmas holidays from

December 24th, 2020 to

December

26th, 2020,

there is a nationwide

exception to the corona lockdown

.

This exception also applies in

Lower Saxony

.

The following groups of people may meet in the respective number of people:

  • Members of your own household - and

    four other close relatives

or their partners, in this case it can also be more than

    two households

    .

  • If you want to

    celebrate

    with

    friends

    , the normal

    contact restrictions

    still apply

    : a maximum of

    five people

    from a maximum of

    two households

    .

  • Children up to 14 years of age

    are

    excluded

from the count in both cases

    .

The

state government of Lower Saxony defines the

term

relatives

as follows: "This includes straight line relatives and by-laws, spouses, life partners, fiancés, siblings or life partners of the siblings, siblings of the spouses or life partners, foster parents and foster children."

Celebrating Christmas in a private or public space?

These rules apply in Lower Saxony

The

corona rules

at

Christmas

do not only apply in your own four walls, but also in public.

In other words: Anyone who invites more than four family members or more than five friends from two households to come into the garden is violating the applicable virus measures.

There is no

person limit

in the form of a prescribed maximum number for the

practice of religion

.

However, the number of people taking part must be limited based on the size of the premises.

The

hygiene concept

for the space / ceremony should also be geared towards this (including mouth and nose covering, ventilation, disinfectants).

Despite the corona pandemic in Lower Saxony: the importance of Christmas for families continues unabated

Prime Minister Stephan Weil

regrets the developments in the

lockdown

, but considers the

corona measures

applicable

from December

16, 2020

to be

justified.

According to his own statement, he is

aware of

the

importance of Christmas for many families

, “but we all agree that we must not risk the number of infected people rising further as a result of Christmas.

Nursing staff and doctors - especially in intensive care units - are already working to the limit and the number of people

dying

from or with the

coronavirus

every day

is high.

We want to do everything we can to save human lives. "

"We have decided to take drastic measures to intensify our fight against the corona virus once again before Christmas," said MP Stephan Weil when explaining the new corona regulations on December 13, 2020.

Preparation for Christmas with the family in Lower Saxony: Why "pre-quarantine"?

With regard to the

Christmas holidays

and

New Year's Eve

, politicians are increasingly talking about a “

pre-quarantine

”.

This describes another way of protecting

family

and

friends

from corona infection.

What is a "

pre-quarantine

" and what do I have to do?

  • The term describes

    voluntary self-isolation

    .

  • For 10 to 14 days

you avoid all direct contact with people outside your own household.

  • Roommates and holiday guests also do the same.

  • This

    minimizes

    the

risk of infecting others during the holidays

    .

Another way

to

reduce

the

risk of infection

over the holidays

is to stay in a hotel.

The visit should not live in the house, but

take

a

hotel room

for Christmas or New Year's Eve

.

The ban on overnight stays does not apply here, as these are not used for tourist purposes.

Christmas with corona lockdown: what penalties can rule breakers expect in Lower Saxony?

Anyone who violates the

Corona rules

can expect hefty penalties: According to the regulations of the state government of

Lower Saxony

and the

catalog of fines

issued

on November 25, 2020, a fine of up to 25,000 euros can be imposed in the event of repetition.

But don't worry, the

police

wo

n't just ring your doorbell for no reason at

Christmas

and ask to be admitted.

However, the law enforcement officers may visit you if, for example, a neighbor calls the police about disturbing the peace.

In this case,

a

fine

must be expected if

the rules are violated

.

Not only

schools

* are severely affected

by the new Corona rules

, but also the Association of the Pyrotechnic Industry (VPI).

The new

coronavirus measures also

apply to

New Year's Eve

: firecrackers are therefore

not allowed in

2020

.
