In a few hours the limit to apply for health coverage expires, which begins on January 1, 2021. You still have time to contact your private providers or enter the website enabled by the Government for this purpose.

Enrollment for health coverage under the affordable health law, known as Obamacare, ends Tuesday across much of the United States.

The federal health plan, which has managed to survive repeated rebates by the Donald Trump Administration, is consolidating itself as a survivor of the last four years.

The coronavirus pandemic, which has claimed more than 300,000 lives in the country, is undoubtedly one of the factors that

has driven interest in health insurance

established through the Affordable Care Act passed under the presidency of Barack Obama, specialists indicate.

This Tuesday, December 15, is the deadline to apply for coverage, which begins on January 1, through the portal

SaludDeSalud.gov.

People can purchase their health insurance through private providers or through the website set up by the government for this purpose.

The latest lawsuit by the Trump administration and states led by conservative governors against the law was met with skepticism last month by justices of the Supreme Court.

Chris Sloan, from the consulting company Avelere Health, assures that those enrolled in this Obamacare period can exceed the current number of enrollments, which is 11.4 million people.

"I think this reflects the need for people who have lost their jobs and need to find some other way to have health insurance," Sloan said.

The insurance market

offers private plans that are subsidized for people who do not have coverage through their jobs.

People with pre-existing medical conditions cannot be excluded from any health plan.

These health plans can be accessed by those with a Social Security number.

The price of the plans is established based on the income of a person or family.

Stephanie Burton, a freelance attorney from Kansas City, Missouri, said she recently renewed her coverage for 2021. For about $ 150 a month, after subsidies, Burton can also cover two young adults.

Burton said he's noticed that

the annual enrollment season gets very little promotion

.

Not even the growing need for coverage amid the COVID-19 layoffs has persuaded the Trump Administration to reconsider its position to repeal the law.

According to Trump administration officials, what they have done is focus on the smooth running of the website for those who may want coverage.

Some former Obama officials who closely monitor the Trump Administration's operation of the program say they have reason to be hopeful this enrollment season.

Joshua Peck, former director of

marketing

for Obamacare, said website traffic is on the rise both from customers who are renewing their coverage, or new consumers.

The

active renewals are an indicator that people are anxious

to avoid expire plans.

Those who do not take any action are automatically renewed, but have to continue making their premium payments to maintain coverage.

Estimates indicate that of the 28 million uninsured before the pandemic, more than 16 million were eligible for some form of subsidized coverage through the health law, according to data from the Kaiser Foundation.
