The officials were attacked by a group of individuals as they wanted to carry out a check for not wearing the mask.

Two police officers were burned by fireworks mortar fire this Tuesday evening in Chanteloup-les-Vignes.

At around 6 p.m., a security assistant and a peacekeeper who were patrolling the Noé district were attacked by individuals they were preparing to check for not wearing a mask.

“They were taken to task by a group of assailants before being cornered and retreating into the station under mortar fire,” said one of their colleagues.

Reinforcements arrived shortly after to secure the area.

The firefighters joined them and took care of the two injured who were taken to the Poissy hospital.

"They suffer from slight burns to the chest and groin," said a source.

But their days are not in danger and their state of health does not cause concern ”.

For the time being, no arrests have been made and investigators from the Conflans-Sainte-Honorine police station are responsible for identifying the attackers.

Protective clothing requested by the police

Alliance union representative Julien Le Cam denounces an “unacceptable” aggression on his colleagues.

He recalls that he has been asking "for months" that the security forces who patrol in sensitive areas be equipped with fireproof clothing to be able to protect themselves from mortar fire.

On the SGP side, François Bersani protests against the repeated violence committed against the police officers intervening in Chanteloup-les-Vignes.

"These recurring facts for many months are not taken seriously by the authorities of this department", deplores the representative, stressing that his union has also demanded "for many weeks" the provision of "fire-resistant clothing".

An endowment that he considers "legitimate and essential".

The use of pyrotechnics has become the “anti-cop” weapon par excellence.

Previously, these mortar fireworks were only observed around July 14.

Now they are part of the usual arsenal of perpetrators of urban violence.

And a police officer underlined in passing that “these projectiles also frighten the residents of the cities who fear that they will set their homes on fire”.

Contacted Tuesday evening, a source close to the departmental direction of public security (DDSP) agrees that it is necessary to protect the officials who are put to the test in these sensitive areas and announces that these famous "fire-resistant outfits" will soon arrive in Yvelines police stations.
