The characteristic of a good compromise is to allow everyone to find their account and to avoid humiliation.
At LR, Christian Jacob won the battle of the calendar: we will not talk about the presidential election before the territorial elections of June 2021. Bruno Retailleau, himself, won the battle of the method: for lack of a natural champion on this date, there is will have a democratic and transparent selection process.
There is however a notable difference between these two victories: that of the president of the party is immediate, therefore proven;
that of the president of the senatorial group is deferred, therefore hypothetical.
The preserved unity of the party well deserved that everyone pretend to rejoice at the unanimity obtained.

This choice of appeasement also underlines that the two logics are required or will be imposed on everyone.
Indeed, the desire not to rush things is common sense when the need for a selection procedure - whether called "primary", "tiebreaker" or any other name - is obvious.
