Summary :
This is the first time that a former President of the Republic has appeared before a criminal court.
Nicolas Sarkozy was tried from November 23 to December 10 in Paris for corruption and influence peddling, just like his lawyer Me Thierry Herzog, and the former high magistrate at the Court of Cassation Gilbert Azibert.
The court reserved its decision on March 1, 2021.
The facts date back to 2013, when the former president was bugged in connection with an investigation into the financing of his 2007 presidential campaign. The police then discovered the existence of a parallel line open in the name of Paul Bismuth , on which Nicolas Sarkozy and Me Herzog hope to discuss discreetly.
The two men are accused of having sought to gather information from Gilbert Azibert on an upcoming court decision, in exchange for a boost for his career.
