Rashida Talib, a member of the Democratic House of Representatives from the state of Michigan and one of the figures affiliated with the Progressive Party in the Democratic Party, was part of a panel on anti-Semitism organized by the Jewish Voice for Peace movement - a Jewish-American left-wing movement that supports BDS.
At the event, Talib, who dealt with accusations of anti-Semitism by Jewish groups, was seen declaring that she actually loves Jews and rejects anti-Semitism.
She added that support for Palestinian rights was not a demonstration of anti-Semitism, while she said hatred of Jews came from voices that supported the Republican Party.
The incident is condemned by many Jewish groups and commentators, including Barry Weiss - a former New York Times editor who left the paper after accusing it of lack of objectivity, including an alleged antisemitic bias.
Rashida Talib frequently criticizes Israel and its policies, and after being elected to Congress she said she would consider promoting cuts in US military aid to Israel.
