Ten years later, the bitter taste of the Arab Spring

STORY - For lack of political elites capable of taking over and embodying a new era, the hope born of popular uprisings was quickly dashed.


Arab spring, Islamist autumn, jihadist winter.

And then return to the ante situation, that of before the revolts born at the end of 2010-beginning of 2011: ten years after having risen up, the Arab countries are now again held by authoritarian regimes which, as in the past, prevail of their fight against Islamism and jihadism to obtain a blank check from the international community.

Tunisia is the exception.

Libya, Syria and Yemen are still at war.

If the circle seems to have come full circle, the binary choice between a strong man and an Islamist opposition cannot however satisfy the 60% under 30 years old living in the Arab world, this youth, today some 200 million d individuals, who set in motion in 2011. Having little to lose, she still aspires to a job and a future, to more democracy and social justice, to power, not necessarily modeled on the 'West, but less corrupt, and better governance.
