The Algerian Ministry of Defense announced today the killing of three Algerian navy officers, as a military helicopter belonging to the National Coast Guard fell into the open sea off the eastern coast of the state of Tipaza, west of the fishing port of Bouharoun.
A ministry statement reported by the APS stated: “The helicopter“ Merlin ”of the Naval Forces Command fell while carrying out a technical training flight this morning, 20 nautical miles northwest of the coast of the city of Bouharoun in Tipaza,“ killing three officers on board.
The Algerian authorities have opened an immediate investigation to find out the circumstances and causes of the accident, and a previous toll was reported that an officer was killed and two were missing as a result of the helicopter crash. The Algerian army announced last January that a military plane of the "Sukhoi 30" type had fallen in the state of Oum El Bouaghi, north-eastern Algeria.
