The police searched a unit in Wan Chai on the early morning of the National Day last year and found items such as white electric oil, cloth strips, glass bottles, gas masks, etc. in the unit. Five people in the unit and the tenant were arrested. The prosecution believed that the unit was used to store demonstration items , A place for demonstrators to rest, 6 people were charged with conspiracy to commit riots, but some of the defendants disputed or some wanted to participate in a legal procession. The tenant also accused the party of only providing evidence based on the similarity of the renter’s name and asked the court for a ruling. The certificate is not established.

After hearing his resignation yesterday, Judge Shen Xiaomin ruled today (17th) that all the defendants were found guilty.

Everyone does not defend themselves or call witnesses, and the case will be closed on the 22nd of this month.

The 6 defendants are: Zhang Haohui (23 years old, full-time e-sports player), Hu Kaifu (21 years old, student), Chen Zibin (21 years old, clerk), Su Meili (25 years old, clerk), Li Yingli (27 years old, student), and Shen Zhuoqin (24 years old, unemployed).

The charges allege that they participated in the riots between September 28 and October 1, 2019. They were also charged with one alternate charge, namely conspiracy to participate in an illegal assembly.

The prosecution alleged that Shen rented a unit in Ren Wo Yue Building in Wan Chai from September 28 to October 1 last year. The police broke into the unit in the early morning of October 1 and arrested the first five defendants. Shen was arrested afterwards.

The police also found items used by violent protesters, including cloth strips, glass bottles, white electric oil, and also found lighters, maps, rescue kits, gloves, masks, walkie-talkies, etc. in the backpacks of five people. .

Zhang also has 2 receipts for purchasing white power oil.

The government chemist believes that glass bottles, cloth strips and white electric oil can be used to make petrol bombs.

The prosecution stated that the building’s closed-circuit television showed that five of the defendants had entered and exited the building involved, and the unit was located near the violent incident or illegal assembly site, plus there were items for violent frontline demonstrators. The name of the hirer in the defense dispute is only similar

The first defendant’s representative said in a statement that it does not rule out that people in the unit intend to participate in a legal demonstration and question when the defendants have a common criminal intent.

The sixth defendant’s case stated that there was no direct evidence against the sixth defendant in the case. Although the prosecution claimed that he was the renter of the unit, the prosecution could not prove that the person who rented the unit matches the name of the sixth defendant Shen Zhuoqin.

The prosecution insisted that there were a large number of protest items in the unit

In response, the prosecution admitted that the names of the sixth defendant Shen Zhuoqin and the renter of the unit may just be similar. The landlord claimed that the name of the renter was "Zhuo Jianchen (transliteration)". The landlord did not confirm the wording. The prosecution relied on its pronunciation to infer the renter. It is Shen.

However, the prosecution claimed that there were a large number of contentious objects in the unit, and requested the court to rule that the prima facie evidence was established. It also hopes that the court can consider the sixth defendant and the other five defendants separately.
