A panel of experts from the United States recommended the emergency authorization of
Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine on Thursday
, paving the way for six million doses to begin distribution this weekend.
The 22 members of the FDA's Vaccines and Biologics Advisory Committee
all voted in favor of the vaccine
, with only one abstention.
In this way, Moderna's serum is closer and closer to becoming
the second vaccine
to receive emergency authorization from the FDA, after that of Pfizer, which began to be administered this week in various parts of the United States.
Now the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is expected to grant an emergency use authorization (US) imminently, which would make this vaccine the second to be approved in a Western country.
