The future US President Joe Biden has, according to consistent reports, committed to further top personalities at the top of the US authorities: Deb Haaland is to be nominated as Minister of the Interior.

She is the leading candidate for the job, according to Reuters news agency.

The Democratic congresswoman from New Mexico would be the first Native American to hold this position.

In the USA, the agency has different tasks than the European interior ministries and is responsible, for example, for the Indian nations and the national parks - a total of more than a fifth of the country's area.

Haaland has announced that it wants to promote the generation of renewable energies in order to combat climate change.

According to media reports, Biden has already awarded another top position: the politician Michael Regan is to be nominated as head of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Biden has made the fight against climate change a priority and has ambitious plans.

The EPA will play a key role in implementation.

Regan was with the EPA during the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush administrations.

He then worked at the non-governmental environmental protection organization Environmental Defense Fund and most recently at the environmental agency in the US state of North Carolina.

The future US president had announced that he wanted to energetically renovate millions of buildings across the country.

He has also promised to pave the way for US power generation to be free of CO2 emissions by 2035.

Electromobility should also be promoted.

Regan appears to have only recently gained acceptance

The incumbent President Donald Trump neglected the environmental agency EPA and weakened or overruled dozens of environmental protection regulations.

As the "New York Times" reports, Regan was only recently considered as head of the agency.

According to the newspaper, he prevailed against Mary D. Nichols, who heads the California Emissions Control Authority, the California Air Resources Board.

Biden had recently announced a number of personnel decisions.

For example, the former US Federal Reserve chief Janet Yellen is to be nominated as Treasury Secretary.

Alejandro Mayorkas is the first Latino to head the Ministry of Homeland Security, which is responsible for immigration, among other things.

In addition, Biden wants to appoint the experienced diplomat Antony Blinken as Secretary of State and former Secretary of State John Kerry as his climate officer.
