Large police operation at Wurzer Umwelt: The company is said to have disposed of asbestos-containing waste incorrectly - not the only suspicion.

Freising / Erding - In the early hours of the morning, the Wurzer Umwelt company received a visit from more than 100 officials from the State Criminal Police Office and the Landshut Public Prosecutor's Office.

As the BR first reported, it is about the allegation that the company, which is located on the border between Freising and Erding, could have incorrectly stored or disposed of waste containing asbestos, sewage sludge and contaminated waste wood for several years.

In addition, there is an allegation that disposal facilities were not used properly and that capacities were exceeded.

Without mentioning the name of the company, Thomas Steinkraus-Koch, spokesman for the Landshut public prosecutor's office, confirms the operation.

"It must now be determined whether plants were operated that were not approved or are not approved at all," said the chief prosecutor.

Wurzer: Even private rooms were searched

On Wednesday, the area, the offices and private rooms were searched by those responsible and numerous materials were seized.

According to Steinkraus-Koch, the action continued on Thursday.

"The point now is to back up data." He admits that the investigation was very complex.

It will take months for all evidence to be evaluated.

An appraiser was also present during the raid.

“It is important to check to what extent improper storage and disposal have created an environmental hazard for the soil and the air,” said the spokesman for the authorities.

At the moment, however, one cannot say more.

"We are currently investigating the allegations."

Whistleblowers apparently knew their way around

The company was found through a reference that the public prosecutor and the LKA take seriously.

"It is a person who knows his way around very well and who has told us where to look." It must be a tipster with a lot of experience and good local knowledge.

Steinkraus-Koch did not say whether it was a competitor or even an employee.

Owner Wolfgang Wurzer did not want to comment on the request of our newspaper with reference to the ongoing proceedings.

However, he makes it clear that “we have one of the most modern facilities in Bavaria and give 450 people work”.

And he emphasizes “that our business continues to run as normal”.
