The US is desperate for a second vaccine, but an enemy of a different kind threatens to disrupt everything in the desperate fight in Corona

While the daily death toll has broken a new record and the number of hospitalized has risen for the 19th day in a row, a formidable snowstorm threatens to hurt the spread of vaccines to the East Coast.

In the meantime, the FDA will discuss issuing an emergency permit for a modern vaccine, hoping to ease the war on an epidemic that has hit the U.S. more than any other country in the world.

The daily death toll from the Corona virus in the United States reached a new high of 3,580 people yesterday, and the number of hospitalized has risen for the 19th day in a row - while US authorities are discussing whether to grant an emergency permit for a second Corona vaccine.

Another 232,255 cases of the disease were reported - the second highest since the outbreak, with the state of California becoming the first state across the United States to register more than 50,000 people infected in one day, according to Reuters data.

The United States is leading among all countries in the world at 307,767 deaths and nearly 17 million infected since the onset of the crisis, with the outgoing administration, led by President Donald Trump, opposed measures such as imposing closures and charging with masks, which have been shown to be effective in controlling the epidemic.

However, aid to combat the epidemic may soon come in the form of a second vaccine awaiting approval from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

A panel of external consultants is expected to support today the issuance of an emergency certificate for the modern company's vaccine, a week after the same professional committee examined the vaccine of the pharmaceutical company Pfizer and its German partner Biontech.

The FDA granted emergency approval for the marketing of Pfizer's vaccine a day later, in a move that paved the way for a massive vaccination campaign, which began last Monday.

About 570 medical centers received the first deliveries of Pfizer's vaccines on Monday and Tuesday, and another 886 are expected to be vaccinated by Friday, according to General Gustav Perna, who heads the operation of the vaccination campaign.

But the first significant storm of the winter season could disrupt the distribution of vaccines.

Shipping companies like Federal Express and United Purple Service have potential plans to maintain the safety of any vaccine delivery whose distribution is delayed until it can be delivered to its destination, Parna told reporters.

While millions of Americans have been fired from their jobs, Congress will also be able to reach out.

After months of quarrels and as the deadline approaches, U.S. lawmakers are haggling over details of a $ 900 billion aid program that party leaders have promised will pass before the end of the year.

The package is expected to include $ 600- $ 700 incentive benefits, an extension of unemployment benefits, and a subsidy for the distribution of vaccines and assistance to small businesses.

Expected: The worst storm in New York in 4 years

The severe snowstorm hit the east coast of the United States in the early hours of the day, creating further significant challenges in the midst of tackling the epidemic and the large-scale vaccination campaign in the area.

The storm, which is approaching New York, Pennsylvania, and other states in the northeastern United States, could disrupt corona testing and delay shipments for the holiday season, leaving more than 60 million exposed to weather hazards.

New York City, if covered in the expected severity, will encounter the largest amount of snow from a single storm known since January 2016 - then about 60 inches piled up in the city.

Authorities in New York and Pennsylvania have announced that they are prepared to deal with the problematic weather so that the schedule of the vaccination operation will continue as planned.

The shipping companies FedEx and UPS also announced that they had taken steps to reduce the impact of the storm on their operations.

The amount of snow that fell in both countries was measured at about five inches per hour, with more than 30 and a half inches in total, according to the United States National Weather Service.

The service said the snow is up to about 60 inches in some parts of the two states, which operate levels to keep the roads clear.

Boston, the most populous city in the state of Massachusetts, has declared a state of emergency and banned the parking of vehicles on major roads.

Many residents hurried out and played.

"With high security this major snowstorm will have a significant impact, including traffic disruptions and shortages in the power supply," the National Weather Service said.

Despite the potential dangers, many residents rushed out to play in Times Square - some dressed as figures like Elmo and Batman and others waging snowball fights - while it was painted white.

For now it's still just a game.

And while the snow delighted many, the restaurants piled up the chairs and tables and closed their gates after snow warnings put an end to the possibility of eating out - the last hope of business owners in the face of social distance regulations.

In Pennsylvania, the Department of Transportation has instructed drivers to restrict travel and introduced them to new speed limits to prevent accidents. Hundreds of schools announced they would close during the storm, and once again returned to distance learning. Airlines also canceled hundreds of flights yesterday, preventing many from traveling to their family ahead of Christmas.
