As Tennessee prepares to distribute its first shipment of covid-19 vaccines, its governor, Bill Lee, urged all residents to remain vigilant and continue to act responsibly during this pandemic.

While the licensing of vaccines is a turning point in this pandemic, the sad reality is that Tennesseans are getting sicker and sicker, Lee told reporters Thursday.

On Wednesday, the state reported 11,410 new cases of coronavirus, a record since the beginning of the pandemic.

The decisions people made during Thanksgiving have a stark reality in the hospital system across the state, added the Tennessee governor.

"One thing that this vaccine will not solve or cure is selfishness or indifference to what is happening to our neighbors around us," he insisted.

Lee also added that the vaccine is not a cure for silly decisions about how we meet.

Nor to the refusal to wear masks, he commented.

And he added that it will not cure the idea that one person's decision does not affect the life of another.

Tennessee expects 56,550 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to begin arriving at its hospitals.

Earlier this week, the state Department of Health announced that it will hold the first shipment of 975 doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine as an emergency backup, in the event a hospital supply is damaged.
